![]() ![]() Riordan pays homage to the previous books without pandering to the readers. ![]() (And I don’t usually pay too close attention to book dedications, but this one is PERF.) Not only was it the reason behind most of the fist pumps and hugs, but I love how this storyline subverts very well-established ideas of the god that it involves. Riordan also pulls off some characterization course correction with Jason, which involves my absolute FAVOURITE subplot from this book. THE HOUSE OF HADES SERIESSeeing as this is the eighth book of his that I’ve reviewed, you’d think that I’d run out of ways to praise Rick Riordan by now, right? But he’s continuously upping his game, keeping this long-lasting series as fresh and interesting as ever. But the new romantic developments had me alternating between fist pumping and giving ALL THE HUUUUUGS. ![]() Even though I just want those kids to be together without the constant threat of danger, I always appreciate sources of romantic tension that aren’t related to geometry.Īs for the other established couples, I didn’t swoon too much over them. (‘Oh, let’s take a romantic, leisurely stroll… along this river of wailing souls.’) Suffice to say, adversity imposes a strain on their relationship. Shocking - the darkest depths of the Underworld are not a swoon-inducing environment, even if you’re with your one true love, like Percy and Annabeth are. Piper’s become pretty kickass, and she and her food-summoning cornucopia always have an invite to my slumber parties. While that’s still somewhat the case here, Jason gets to show that there’s more to him than the perfect guy that everyone else sees. I’ve always liked Jason and Piper, but they haven’t been as developed as much as the others. I’ve already given everyone a BFF charm (and I’d also hand a few over to the supporting characters in this book). Should the demigods go back to try to broker peace? Or should they continue on their quest to save their (quite literally) fallen friends? And will this book STOMP ALL OVER MY HEART? Easier said than done, since the Greek and Roman camps are on the verge of war back home. And the only way out for them - and the only way to stop the influx of reincarnated monsters into the mortal world - is to locate the Doors of Death amid the treacherous landscape of Tartarus.īut Percy and Annabeth can’t get out of Tartarus without help from the other demigods the Doors of Death have to be open on their side, too. Since last we saw our fave demigods, HOLY EFFING SHIZZ, PERCY AND ANNABETH FELL INTO TARTARUS and then the book ended WHYYYYYYYYYYY. The gloomy, sinister feel is quite appropriate, ’cause THIS BOOK AIN’T MESSING AROUND, Y’ALL. With each new Rick Riordan book comes another brilliant cover by John Rocco, and this one is no exception. Spoiler Alert: This is Book 4 of the series, so ass-massive spoilers ahead! Relationship Status: Do You Really Want To Hurt Me? Join the demigods as they face their biggest challenges yet in The House of Hades, the hair-raising penultimate book in the best-selling Heroes of Olympus series.Bonus Factor: Callbacks, Consequences, Loyal Pets Even though love can be the riskiest choice of all. Not just for themselves, but for everyone they love. Annabeth and Percy can't exactly launch a frontal assault.ĭespite the terrible odds, Hazel, Annabeth, Percy, and the other demigods of the prophecy know that there is only one choice: to attempt the impossible. Even if they did, a legion of Gaea's strongest monsters guards the Doors on the Tartarus side. They have no way of locating the Doors of Death. How will the two of them make it through Tartarus? Starving, thirsty, and in pain, they are barely able to stumble on in the dark and poisonous landscape that holds new horrors at every turn. Gaea, the bloodthirsty Earth Mother, has set the date of August 1 for her rise to power.Īnnabeth and Percy are overwhelmed. Whichever road they decide to take, they have to hurry, because time is running out. Or they could continue their quest to find the House of Hades, where they might be able to open the Doors of Death, rescue their friends Percy and Annabeth from Tartarus, and prevent monsters from being reincarnated in the mortal world. She and the remaining crew of the Argo II could return home with the Athena Parthenos statue and try to stop Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter from going to war. ![]()
